SS&S-RyOur Current Project Winter 2007 - 2008Judy Gap is our current project on the railroad. For several seasons now we have been working at Cherry Grove, the southeastern terminus on the North Fork branchline. Judy Gap, which trains pass through on each trip between Cherry Grove and Elkins, did have a small yard and several industries. However, minimal effort had been spent on the Judy Gap area and operation never fully evolved. Besides this, the "S" curve at the east end of Judy Gap which leads into the helix, presented a problem for running even medium size steam engines. The initial reasoning behind a restructure of Judy Gap was to make operation of occasional steam engines possible. Beyond this, a more usable mainline extending through Judy Gap was deemed very desirable. The goal of all this was to allow full use of the mainline between the west end of Judy Gap all the way to the end of track at Cherry Grove's east end just beyond the station in that town. Completing this project will allow better demonstration of locomotives, rolling stock and the DCC systems we represent.
The Sandyhook Spruce & Southern Railway is our company model railroad. Part of the Sandyhook is on display in our store. That portion is used as the demonstration area for our Clinic series as well a test track and display area for products we carry. The Sandyhook Spruce & Southern is a fictional railroad based on the Western Maryland Railway just prior to the merger into the Chessie System. Depicting West Virginia in the fall of 1971, the SS&S is designed for multi-operator operation. The SS&S is a wonderful tool for instruction and we will be using it again and again here on the website as well as in our store.
